Looking for Best Practice - Creating a "pre-lab" for class?

Hi!  We are struggling with getting our students up to speed on surgient without wasting class time.  Our classes are 4 hours in legnth so we have little time to spare.  I have the students doing prework (browser test and adding trusted site) but we are still losing time just getting logged in at first.

One thought I had was to create a blank image that students must sign into to test and make sure its working before their schduled class. How can this work with multiple students? What about the QUIT button?

Does anyone have a recommendation for how to get our students more proficient with install active X and the intial login process to be less time consuming?

Any and all help is appreciated!!  Thanks, Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer -

If the student is running the Browser test correctly and accepting all the prompts, the controls should all download and there will be no need for the students to have to log in to a test image.  I am wondering if, perhaps, they are missing something in the pre-work?

When you refer to the login process, I am going to make the assumption that you are referring to the Surgient login process?  There are two ways I can think of to handle this.

     1)  Have the students log in to Surgient as part of the prework so that they can familiarize themselves with the environment.  Any accounts you need to use for the class will be recreated before you schedule the class, as your roster will already be defined.

     2)  The VTMS instructor's console page contains all the "direct access" links for the student VMs.  You can have your instructors cut and paste each link and sent it to the appropriate student.  This link allows the student to completely bypass the Surgient login page and go directly to the lab launch page.

The quit button, out of the box, will end the student's reservation.  If your student wants to exit the lab but not end his reservation, he can either log off the system, as he would his regular desktop, or click the X at the top right corner of the window.  If you do not like the quit button, you can work with Surgient Professional Services to get a customization to either remove it or change the behavior.

Hopefully this helps - let me know if you have any other questions.

     Jackie.
