How to Host Surgient 5.4 Online Documentation Locally

    Hosting Surgient Online Documentation Locally

By default, the Surgient online help files and the links to the PDF files on the Management Console Home page point to the Surgient publications server, http://www.surgient.com. This ensures access to the latest, most up-to-date documentation.

However, if the installation program detects that your Surgient environment cannot access the Surgient publications server, the online help is automatically installed locally, in the Surgient/URA/base directory.

Note: If you installed the VxMS application on a different computer than where you installed the VCS and Management Console, you will need to copy the online_help.zip file to both computers, and use the following steps to update the application’s online Help files.

To update the online Help files that are currently installed locally, perform the following steps:

    1.      Download the online_help.zip file for the appropriate version of Surgient from http://success.surgient.com.

    2.      Copy the online_help.zip file to the following location on the computer where you installed Surgient.

    <install_dir>\URA\base

    3.      Extract the files from the online_help.zip file into the <install_dir>\URA\base directory.

    4.      View the .zip files for the Management Console and the Surgient applications.

    5.      Double-click the MCHelp.zip file and then extract the files. This creates a directory named MCHelp, which contains the extracted folders and files.

Note: If prompted by the Extract dialog for a directory name, do not add a folder for the help files. When the files are extracted, the folder is automatically created. Do not rename any of the files.

    6.      For each of the Surgient applications that are installed, double-click and extract the appropriate .zip file. For example, if you have VQMS installed, double-click the VQMSHelp.zip and extract the files. This creates a directory called VQMS\help.

In this example, your directory structure should appear like this:

    7.      Close and reopen the Surgient application, and then test the online Help links.
